Wilderer Grappa Muscato
R479.99
Wilderer’s flagship and most sought-after grappa has been awarded the most international gold and double gold medals over all vintages. The Muscato Grappa expresses a beautiful bouquet of lichee, cinnamon and honeysuckle typical to that of Muscat grapes.
An incredibly smooth mouthfeel and long finish makes this grappa a favourite to enjoy neat or alongside a robust coffee.
Description
Grappa is distilled from grape skins. When they arrive at the distillery, the grape skins already have alcohol mixed into them from fermentation after wine making.
There are 3 different types of Grappa:
- Barrel aged Grappas: they will have a brown colour like our Pinotage, Shiraz, Muscato.
- White Grappas: they have not been matured in barrels like the Gewurztraminer etc. which we do in small batches
- Aromatized Grappas: which are infused with herbs like our Fynbos Grappa
We shovel 500kg of skins into our distillery to get about 50 litres of Grappa after a 14 hour day so it’s very hard work for very little product.
Grape skins aren’t available all year round so we need to distill as much as possible in a short time: which is why we go straight through the night for 2 months!
Our Grappa is dependent on nature. Like wines, they are vintage so every year will be different, some years better than others – but always incredible quality. Most other people add artificial colour to their spirits (almost all whiskeys and brandies you buy in shops) but we don’t do it! For this reason, our Grappas will have slightly different colours each year to illustrate the different harvest seasons.
