Sadly, Helmut Wilderer passed away in 2016, but his son Christian Wilderer, who moved to South Africa with him more than twenty years ago, continues to build on the legacy his father left.

Master Distiller Helmut Wilderer, the father of South African craft spirits, personally hand-selected 27 indigenous botanicals of which many belong to the Cape Fynbos Floral Kingdom. Flowers, berries, barks, peels, roots, stems and leaves all come together in harmony to produce Wilderer Fynbos Gin.

Fresh ingredients and flowers are hand-picked from the estate’s gardens, while specialized Fynbos species and other herbs are sustainably harvested. Once macerated and distilled in small batches with the highest quality spirit base, pure Franschhoek mountain spring water is added to produce this award-winning gin.

Good things take time. Careful consideration went into the process of crafting Wilderer’s Rose Water Gin, the second addition to their gin stable. As crisp and floral as a breath of spring air, fresh rose petals are carefully infused by the distiller, along with juniper, cinnamon, cardamom and a few secret botanicals, to naturally recreate the aroma of Turkish Delight.

Rose petals are hand-picked at the nursery and immediately added to jars of alcohol. When a rose is plucked, its petals immediately start to lose their precious scent. Without wasting time, the distiller locks in the aroma and flavour of the fresh petals to immortalize the fragrances in alcohol.

Wilderer’s Pinotage Grappa is a classic barrique grappa distilled from Pinotage grape skins and matured in French oak barrels which previously housed Pinotage wine for four years. This product, with this cultivar is the first of its sort and unique to South Africa.

Vanilla, cherries and coffee roast aromas on the palate, harmonious wood, soft and round with a rich and sweet finish.
