The Wilderer story starts in 1994 when Helmut Wilderer, a German restaurant owner, discovered that no Grappa or Eau de Vie was produced locally during a visit to South Africa. He was granted the first private distilling license in South Africa and so Wilderer Distillery was born.

Completing his training as Master Distiller in Austria and Germany, Helmut Wilderer went on to create award-winning grappas, eaux de vie and gin at his distillery in Simondium with bespoke copper stills. Today, Wilderer boasts a second distillery located at Spice Route in Paarl. Sadly, Helmut Wilderer passed away in 2016, but his son Christian Wilderer, who moved to South Africa with him more than twenty years ago, continues to build on the legacy his father left.

As the proud national distributors of Wilderer products in South Africa, our portfolio includes grappas, eaux de vie, gin and the recently launched moonshine.
