Sipsmith TOP at World’s Best Bar Awards

Sipsmith TOP at the World’s Best Bar Awards

In 2009, on a mission to bring gin of uncompromising quality and character back to the city where it all began, they threw open their blue doors of hope on Nasymth Street and launched a traditional copper distillery which, and they were a little overexcited about this, no one had done in London for nearly 200 years. It was to mark the beginning of a gin distilling renaissance in London. And who doesn’t love a renaissance.

They handcraft their gin in small batches with skill, care and an almost fetishistical love. Only ever taking the heart of the spirit, and never made from concentrate, this is gin made the way it used to be, the way it should be. The result is stunningly smooth, full of character and exploding with flavour.

The quintessential expression of a classic, traditional London Dry Gin. Bold, complex and aromatic – smooth enough for a Martini, but rich and balanced, perfect for a G&T.

On the palate , dry juniper leads, then reveals lemon tart & orange marmalade, before all the flavours harmonise. The finish has a dryness, with spicy juniper & a hint of lemon tart emerging.

Ten carefully selected botanicals from around the globe to make our London Dry Gin…Macedonian juniper berries, Bulgarian coriander seed, French angelica root, Spanish liquorice root, Italian orris root, Spanish ground almond, Chinese cassia bark, Madagascan cinnamon, Sevillian orange peel and Spanish lemon peel.

WIN with Val du Charron

Val du Charron Wines now available from Liquidity

A blend is much like a symphony orchestra where you have all the various sections … the crisp woodwinds, the solid brass instruments, the rhythmic percussion and the elegant strings … on their own they are instruments, but together under the hand of the conductor, a symphony.”

Val du Charron is one of the most beautiful farms against the hills in the Bovlei valley. Not only does the sheer beauty blow you away, but also the huge potential of our natural resources … all the vineyards are on southern facing slopes, rich red soils and a whole bouquet of varietals, 16 to be exact, from Merlot to Touriga Nacional, from thirty-year-old Chenin blanc to Pinot Gris. Why so many different cultivars?

We strongly believe in blending! We have a continental climate, just like the very well known great wine-producing areas of the world – Rhône valley, Dao, Rioja and many others. These different varietals have different, yet very unique qualities and if put together, produces a composition which is more complex, richer, finer, more finessed and more unique than any cultivar on its own.

You could stand a chance to WIN a 2 night stay in their 4 star cottages on the estate including a private tour & tasting at the Theatre of Wine and enjoy a lunch at The Local Grill also situated on the estate!

To enter, simply list & order any of the Val du Charron wines in October & November, send us any creative images whether it be the wines listed on your menu or guests enjoying them in your restaurant, and email to GOOD LUCK!

Caipirinha – The Official Drink of Summer

germana-plus-caip-copyCachaça is the national spirit of Brazil, made from distilled sugar cane juice and corn flour. While rum is distilled from molasses left over after extracting the sugar, Cachaça is distilled directly from the juice of the unrefined sugar cane.

Germana Cachaca is South Africa’s only available artisanal Cachaca and every bottle is lovingly hand crafted at the small family owned Germana Distillery in Minas Gerais, Brazil. With its rich aromatic flavour, but pure, clean finish this spirit can be enjoyed neat or as a base in a variety of cocktails. It’s distilled in copper pot stills, and mellowed in large oak vats for up to six months to smooth out the flavour. Many of these cachacas are subsequently aged in wood casks for up to 12 years.

You may have seen its popular incarnation, the Caipirinha (pronounced kai-pi-reen-ja ) on a cocktail menu’s but many do not know the history & unique characteristics of this refreshing concoction…

“Slave’s Drink” – the word Caipirinha literally translates from Slave or Peasant’s Drink as it was the hard working sugar cane field workers that originally developed it, using the local ingredients that they had to hand. By fermenting the available sugar cane juice with a simple ground corn starter, distilling and mixing with lime (also a plentiful fruit in Brazil), thus was born the basic Caipirinha. With time, the methods of distillation, maturation and mixing were refined and perfected, thus creating the perfect balance of sweet, sour and refreshing that is now enjoyed by people all over the world.

All you need is 50ml of Germana Cachaca, 1 lime, 1 heaped teaspoon of castor sugar and crushed ice – simply muddle all the ingredients together in a tumbler, topped with crushed ice, stir and enjoy!

Spirit of Dublin

Teeling_Lockup_140813We are so excited to share that we will be the sole distributor of the award winning Teeling Whiskey from Dublin, Ireland!

The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years and will bring the craft of distilling back into the very heart of Dublin city centre.

Their philosophy is that while we are respectful to the rich provenance and heritage of Irish whiskey, as a new generation of Irish whiskey makers we are confident to forge a new future for Dublin and Irish whiskey.

2016 has been a great year for the distillery having won numerous awards, including World’s Best Single Grain, World’s Best Irish Single Malt and the Small Batch having won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition as well as a 2015 Gold Medal at the Irish Whiskey Masters.

Small Batch Low ResTeeling Small Batch

This small batch bottling consists of hand selected casks which are finished in ex-rum barrels imparting extra character and smooth flavour unique to Irish whiskey. By bottling at 46% with no chill filtration, completes an Irish whiskey of true character. While being very approachable, the influence of the rum cask and higher percentage alcohol creates a unique smooth, sweet, slightly woody marriage that sparkles on the tongue.

Single Grain Low ResTeeling Single Grain

Recently Awarded World’s Best Grain at the World Whisky Awards, 2014. This award-winning addition is one of only a handful of Single Grain bottlings in the world. It is fully matured in Californian red wine barrels resulting in an intensely fruity and beautifully amber liquid, with lush berry notes. Certainly one for any whisky lovers collection.

Single Malt Low ResTeeling Single Malt

Made from 100% Malted Barley from a range of different ages including Malt whiskey distilled in 1991. We aimed to produce the most flavoursome non-agestatement Irish Single Malt based on our innovative maturation/finishing techniques while retaining the distinctive Irish smoothness. Consisting of a vatting of 5 different wine cask (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon) finished Irish Malt whiskeys. It offers notes of melon, figs, toffee and lemon, with a balanced mix of dry fruits, citrus, vanilla, spice and cloves on the palate.

Limited Edition Whiskies

Limited Edition Whiskies – Reserve your stock NOW!

We are delighted to confirm that we have some whiskies available from Springbank Distillery and their sister distillery, Longrow.

Springbank Distillery is the oldest independent,  family – owned distillery in Scotland and with its unique Campbeltown location, proudly stands as a beacon of handmade, true artisan Scotch Whisky making against its more readily known peers. A true cult classic brand, Springbank Signature whiskies take pride of place in some of the top establishments and stores nationwide, but as always, this family continues to innovate and evolve with their once off limited edition releases, which we have managed to have sourced a few cases of…

The Longrow

peatedFrom their sister distillery, also born from the quaint Campbeltown village, we bring you the special Longrow Peated dram. A showcase for heavily peated whiskies, but unlike anything from the traditional Islay Malts, this non age statement whisky is dried over peat for the full 48 hours, yet still retains its core of light, elegant creaminess. A great surprise for smokeheads who want something more sophisticated for their collection.

The Longrow 18

For the even more serious smokeheads, there is the dark and slightly mysterious, our 18-year-old Longrow. This dram has a complex nose that unearths a peaty aroma reminiscent of dunnage warehouses. Rich and very, very tasty with dark chocolate, creamy coffee and gingerbread to the fore of the palate, followed by rhubarb and vanilla custard.

The Springbank 12yo Burgundy

This new 12yo edition has been matured in Fresh Burgundy Casks and bottled at cask strength 53.5% vol.

A soft velvet like texture with buttered brown toast and chocolate shortbread complimenting light herb & oak notes.
This dram has a medium dry finish which gives up liquorice and mint accompanied woody tannins.

All these whiskies are available on a first come, first serve basis and with such limited volumes, please do let us know soonest if you would like to reserve any for delivery as soon as it becomes available? Please do remember that all of our whiskies can be ordered in individual units,  rather than full cases, as needed.
